Yearning for God’s Grace: The Power of True Devotion
This blog explains the depth of devotion through a simple comparison: just as a crying child throws away toys to be taken into the mother’s lap, a devotee who rejects worldly pleasures and persistently longs for God eventually receives His divine vision and grace. It shows that true devotion is not about settling for material offerings but about sincerely yearning for God Himself.

Yearning for God’s Grace: The Power of True Devotion
Introduction :
In our journey of faith, most of us are easily distracted by the “toys” of life — wealth, comfort, relationships, and worldly pleasures. These temporary joys keep us engaged, but they often prevent us from seeking something deeper: the embrace of God’s love. Just like a child may forget the mother’s lap when busy with toys, we too forget God when absorbed in material attractions.
But what happens when the child throws away the toy and cries for the mother’s lap? The mother cannot resist and takes the child into her arms. Similarly, when a devotee becomes restless and longs only for God, divine grace flows unconditionally.
The Lesson from a Child’s Love
A simple example explains this truth beautifully:
When the child is happy with toys – The mother, the child, and the whole family are satisfied. The child doesn’t insist on being in the mother’s lap.
When the child rejects the toys and cries – The mother is compelled to take the child into her arms. Even if she hesitates, family members will say: “The child is crying, take him into your lap.”
This is exactly how devotion works. If we are happy with material offerings (toys of the world), God may let us continue in that state. But when we cry out sincerely, unsatisfied with anything except His presence, God embraces us with His divine love.
Spiritual Application
If we are content with pleasures, we stay far from God’s lap. We remain busy and distracted.
If we reject the pleasures and long for God, our prayers become powerful. Our cries of devotion reach His ears.
Saints like Tulsidas, Mirabai, and Tukaram stood as examples of this truth. They proved that constant yearning and longing for God lead to divine union, and such saints also pray on behalf of struggling devotees.
Living This Teaching Today
How can we apply this lesson in daily life?
Don’t get lost in material distractions – Recognize that comforts are temporary.
Make space for longing – Set aside time for prayer, meditation, or chanting.
Cry to God sincerely – Honest prayers carry the deepest power.
Take inspiration from saints – Their lives show us how persistence in devotion draws God closer.
Conclusion: The True Path of Devotion
The essence of this teaching is clear:
👉 If we remain satisfied with worldly pleasures, we distance ourselves from God.
👉 But if we throw away these “toys” and cry only for Him, God is bound to respond.
👉 Even if He delays, the saints intercede and strengthen our devotion.
True devotion, therefore, is not about settling for life’s pleasures but about yearning for God Himself. Just as a crying child wins the mother’s lap, a restless devotee wins the embrace of the Divine.
